I have been making recordings of the PTA security channel (418.300MHz) as all the good stuff happens on the weekends when I'm busy. Not as much fun hearing it live but still...
I was wondering if there is any interest in a daily digest of this channel? I could make a podcast out of it with the silence removed. I estimate there's 4-5 hours of communication during a 24 hour period.
Otherwise I could just make "episodes" out of particular events (eg. evacuations or assaults etc.) for those who are interested.

Out of curiosity, what software do you use to get rid of the silence?

Re: Recordings of security channel
I have the scanner plugged in to an Olympus DM-5 with VCVA set to 1 second. After 1 second of silence it pauses recording.
Looking at setting up my Linux file server as an audio-logger though as I use the Olympus for recording work calls during the week.

Re: Recordings of security channel
I'd be interested in that
Re: Recordings of security channel
Thanks for the links robbage, would be nice if there was one that automagically encoded to mp3 to keep disk space down as well if your aware of any.
I'd be interested in a shortened version of the interesting bits, does anyone know the exact legalities of re-publishing such sources?
Obviously with our FESA stream etc its all open to the airways so I don't think there is an issue, but something to think about.

I'd assume it would be the same for anything you can freely pick up on the radio scanner, however you know what they say about assumptions!yorky wrote:Obviously with our FESA stream etc its all open to the airways so I don't think there is an issue, but something to think about.
I wonder who the appropriate person to ask would be. Might call the InfoLine and see what they say.
Re: Recordings of security channel
Well I'd imagine re-broadcasting laws are covered by the ACMA, I don't think the InfoLine would like any broadcasting/publishing like most companies but the law itself would cover it, its not up to the company.

Considering you would be broadcasting people's personal details I think you might be in breach of privacy laws by re broadcasting...food for thought....read the telecommunications act and have a look
Re: Recordings of security channel
Awww reading!?! Yeah ok I'll look into it. In the mean time I will keep the recordings and hopefully we can do something with them.
I'm making the assumption that if it's legal for http://www.radioreference.com to rebroadcast via streaming audio then a podcast wouldn't be much different, but best to check.

Hmm.
Your www.radioreference.com link could be your undoing.
In the process for applying to broadcast a feed http://www.radioreference.com/apps/acco ... &opt=apply (Not sure if you can get to this - I have an account for the Northam BFS feed) , under "Other Feeds" you are required to tick a box that states :
"I agree to NOT broadcast private businesses. (Taxis, Buses, Towing, Security, Rental etc)"
Something I thought I remembered from when I went through the "reading" stage.
