Re: Qantas - Grounded
Well, the unions only have them self to blame
Purvinas has been calling for people not to fly Qantas between now and Christmas, what does that mean for its union members, well less passengers mean less work, which means more job insecurity
The unions need to pull their head in before they break the airline
As for Gillard not stepping in, well she is the Labor government, it was her/Rudd government that allowed unions back into power

Re: Qantas - Grounded
I think the unions have already screwed it, but Joyce heavy handed approach of grounding the airline is a little uncalled for 'I believe'
I've closed the door!

Re: Qantas - Grounded
Oh well, Joyce trying to prove that what the unions are doing is going to cause them all to be out of a job
Re: Qantas - Grounded
I can't help but be reminded of what happened at the ports back in....98? I'm sure both sides could have put more effort into negotiating an outcome before this, but I do think Nafenn summed up the current situation pretty concisely.

Re: Qantas - Grounded
Gotta love the quote from PerthNow of what Joyce apparently said:AO11912 wrote:The unions need to pull their head in before they break the airline
"We are locking out until the unions withdraw their extreme claim and reach agreement with us,"
So that's his idea of "negotiation" then? Sounds a bit like "our way or the highway" to me.
I predict that either the government will step in and make a ruling that's binding to both sides, or Joyce will be gone before the end of the year.
Whatever people's opinions are as to who's right, the company or the unions, at least the unions (to my understanding at least) are playing by the rules and have permission from Fair Work Australia to engage in industrial action. I haven't seen anything yet in the media to suggest that Qantas has received the same permission (a lock-out of employees is defined by FWA as industrial action, so one would assume that they need to get the same permission that unions and employees do...)
It'll be interesting, that's for sure.

Lets hope it doesn't meet the same fate as Ansett did.

Have we got any one savvy enough to intercept the FWA signals to Sydney?

Favourite Website Awards?
Football Writer's Association?
Farmworks Australia?
My (as un-political as possible) take on it...This is one way to try and force a resolution but judging by the social media streams, it has done enormous damage to the brand. I wonder if there are some at VA who are silently cheering at this.
