One advantage of being home sick is being able to listen to stuff like this
Ok, I've found one slight problem with their preparations. The ICV - Explorer Control just told 6AR the fireground channel was to be 97 (simplex), then a short time later they came back and said the channel is to be channel 38... fair enough.
The ICV then said if they need to be contacted it will have to be via mobile phone (!). Why doesn't the ICV have dual radios? If they're really training for a disaster could they make the same assumption about the mobile phone network still operating...?

38 is 78.5125Mhz. Doubt its going to work very well in the city - thats the area repeater for Kalamunda, Gosnells, Roleystone Bushfire brigades..gkoutlis wrote:FESA's comms seem to be heaps better than VKI on the Excercise - Not much being said - but here is the freq - 78.512 - Channel 38 (FESA)
Is it at all possible this is more a desktop exercise all in Forrestfield? FESA regularly runs exercises without actually moving the appliances from where they are doing it. More an exercise in command, control and co-ordination than actually physically DOING something.
(the doing is usually the easy bit)

Could have been, but the units on ch38 didn't have crash-hot signals...Fastlane wrote: Is it at all possible this is more a desktop exercise all in Forrestfield? VHF portables. Note the news articles said it was a simulation of a building collapse in the CBD... didnt say that it *was* being run in the CBD. At the FESA Forrestfield Academy they have all the scenarios set up for confined space rescue, building collapse etc..vk6hgr wrote:Could have been, but the units on ch38 didn't have crash-hot signals...Fastlane wrote: Is it at all possible this is more a desktop exercise all in Forrestfield? Also, if they were going to run an incident remote from the scene, wouldn't they utilise the Police comms facility in Midland instead of sticking it all somewhere thats a training facility only?
If its still going, they are probably playing on simplex or 'local' frequencies down at Forrestfield. The exercise wasnt actually in the city.. (if you saw the news last night).gkoutlis wrote:Has anyone heard anything more on Operation Western Explorer - training ex???
I have been scanning all over the place namely Channel 45 - 468.950 and did hear some brief chat about the excersise - by the way 45 is the City Beats Command Post on the weekend nights.,...
Am I missing any frequencies?
No i didn't sorry - But i am sure I heard right though - CD-510 was there in St Georges terrace setting up road blocks - FESA was even there...Im sorry that i dont have photographic evidence - but this is what i heard on Channel 3Fastlane wrote:If its still going, they are probably playing on simplex or 'local' frequencies down at Forrestfield. The whole exercise was based at the FESA Forrestfield Training Academy - footage was shown on the news last night with the Premier and Police Commissioner.gkoutlis wrote:No i didn't sorry - But i am sure I heard right though - CD-510 was there in St Georges terrace setting up road blocks - FESA was even there...Im sorry that i dont have photographic evidence - but this is what i heard on Channel 3Fastlane wrote:If its still going, they are probably playing on simplex or 'local' frequencies down at Forrestfield. You cant always believe what you hear - particularly with a training exercise - it is exactly just that! And when you think about it, they were never going to get away with blocking off roads in the CBD for 3 days..
