Someone is going to pick me up on this I'm sure but my understanding was DEC turned out if the fire was within 5kms of their estate (National Park, State Forest, Nature reserve, Crown Land, etc) This doesn't leave much farmland down here they don't have some interest in.

They may not be the first responders but they always seem to turn up.

From my understanding DEC don't do the actual clean up in terms of HAZMAT response they are there to set up environmental monitoring of the situation. Good example is where I went to a chemical spill at the docks in Darwin here and the Department of Environment people were there not to do the cleaning which was a NTFRS but monitor the environmental impact of the situation. I'm guessing it'd be the same in Perth with the DEC and their pollution/hazmat car.

I saw at least two of these on the Channel Ten's news report. (Though it had red beacons)
They were responsible for the "air testing" at the landfill fire today.
