I overheard a kid on the bus talking loudly on his phone, hey what else is there to do on a bus but eavsdrop.
I don't know if he was leaving part of the story out or if he disrespected a transit officer but this is what he said.
He was sitting on a platform (I think) and called his friend a f***ing idiot , a female transit officer turned around and said excuse me , pardon. He tried to explain he wasn't swearing at her, she then got some male guards and they proceeded to, he said 'get in his space' and he was issued a 50 fine for swearing at an officer. He is going to court to fight it.
Ok he was sitting right behind me couldnd't help but hear , he also seemed like a decent kid if I could make that assumption.
I guess I would like to know that if this story actually occured the way he told it , is this right to do this? Can you be fined $50 for talking to a friend and swearing in the conversation ? It just doesn't seem right.
can you be fined for swearing on rail prop? overheard this

Common decency. I guess the word common is inappropriate, though.Blinky wrote:is it just me or do others think something is missing.

Not sure why you are polling. It's a law or it's not a law regardless of our opinion. But if you use that language near my kids, be prepared, I know origami - the ancient Japanese art of folding people into tiny animals and birds.

Actually blinky I have never done a poll before and I pressed a button to quick lol .
I totally agree, yes not swearing I don't swear but then I'm not a kid... Have you caught a bus or train between 3-30pm? It's the standard vocab these days. That's why all the security start so early, to supervise the kids!

Hi Robbage ,
It wasn't me who swore so please don't fold me into a crane . I'm am asking if a kid said a "naughty word" to a school friend and got a $50 fine or was mistaken at who he directed it to should have to go to court. Is it right ?
There seems to be a lot of purists on this one , I'm a bit dissapointed, kids swear every day at bus and train stops. In fact they do a lot worse than that.

Re: Robbage
It was probably an on-the-spot, which means it doesn't go to court (unless the fine isn't paid) I doubt it matters who it was directed at. I'm no saint, but there's a time and place for it; in a public place like that isn't one of them IMHO.cat1 wrote:Hi Robbage ,

See above- 'a time and a place'. Purists don't want to be in my workshop when I put something down and can't find it 2 minutes latercat1 wrote:There seems to be a lot of purists on this one

I had a friend who worked at a certain very rough shopping centre and he had to apprehend a female for shoplifting , she was five foot nothing and proceeded to then try and whack him on the head with her plaster cast!!!! She had a broken arm

Ok not a fan of over quoting sorry robbage.. he is going to court to challenge that he didn't direct it at female transit officer. I think that if he's willing to go to court over a 50 fine to dispute he didn't use such language towards a female security officer then that's actually shows some guts. How many 18 , 19 year old males woud do that? lol I think I am showing my age but 18 to me is a kid.
time and place yep I agree with you on that one

Many Transperth services (buses and trains) display posters outlining Transperth Regulations for using Public Transport. One of these regulations is (and i paraphrase) "Offensive behaviour is not permitted" or "Offensive behaviour will not be tolerated". It would come down to interpretation of "offensive behaviour", but personally i am often offended by the over use of foul and obnoxious language on our trains and buses, and wish someone was around to deal with these individuals.

Or foolhardy... if he loses, he pays the fine and court costs. If he wins, he still loses for wasting half a day over $50cat1 wrote:I think that if he's willing to go to court over a 50 fine to dispute he didn't use such language towards a female security officer then that's actually shows some guts.
