The News Thread

Post by Zebedee »

EDITED: 30 Sep 2008 @ 1530

Folks,

Presenting ... for your enjoyment ... THE NEWS THREAD.

This thread is for news articles that members think are of interest to the WARSUG community.

News articles are expected to have something to do with radiocommunications, or one of the other topic areas of the site (WAPOL, FESA, SJA, etc) unless there's an exceptional reason.

The main criteria to use when deciding whether the news should be posted are:

1) Is the news directly related to radio scanning, radio communications, or an associated activity?
2) Is the news directly related to one of the major topic areas of this site (e.g. WA Police, Ambulance services, CB Radio, Fire services, etc.)
3) Is the news likely to be of interest to the majority of forum readers?

If the item fits those three criteria, then please go ahead and post. However it has been decided that "general interest" stories are no longer suitable for posting - people are perfectly capable of finding their own news if they wish.

Please remember that as per this post that to keep everyone happy, we don't want entire articles just copied and pasted. A link to the original article, with a couple of sentences so people get the idea of what it's about is fine.

Regards,

I will get the ball rolling then.

All Cousins' charges now dropped
The dropping of a charge against AFL star Ben Cousins for failing to take a driver drug test will not change the West Coast Eagles' decision to terminate his contract, the club says.

The second of two charges laid against Cousins in Perth last month will be dropped after police admitted making a mistake, saying the wrong officer had tried to test the controversial player.

Two policewomen injured in morning crash

Post by Kombi »

Two policewomen injured in morning crash
Thursday Nov 15 12:44 AEDT
Two policewomen who had gone to the aid of an injured kangaroo ended up in hospital themselves when their police vehicle and a truck collided north-east of Melbourne.
Both were airlifted to Melbourne hospitals - one with a hand injury and the other with an injured arm, Victorian Police said
Assistant Commissioner Bob Hastings said the two officers were at the end of their night shift after investigating an injured kangaroo at Healesville when the accident happened.
The police divisional van and a truck collided on the Maroondah Highway, near Badger Creek Road at Healesville, at 6.15am (AEDT) Thursday.
One officer was airlifted to The Alfred Hospital and the other to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The truck driver was treated at the scene for shock.
"The truck driver did everything that was right," Mr Hastings said. "After the crash the truck driver was very concerned about both police members and did all he could to assist in their welfare."
Mr Hastings said the two officers had been lucky to escape without serious harm.
"I probably have said to both of them at some stage that they should probably take out a Tattslotto ticket, because I think it has been a very lucky day for them."
The police major collision unit is investigating the accident.

I posted the whole story as Ninemsn can change thier stories hourly.

Raney case

Post by Toottoot »

A little while ago Lloyd Raney was charged with bugging his former wifes phone. Yet there is an article which states someone else has faced court charged with the offence. Has the charge against Lloyd been dropped and when was this other bloke charged? I cant recall anything in the media about it.

Sorry Stupid statement, how many commercial airliners crash per month in the world, largest single accident was 2 Jumbo's (Boeing 747) collided on runway in cannary islands back in late 70's, 500 odd killed, 370 survived, can't compare that agaist road idiots, especially in USA which still has open road speeds, no limmits.

The law is an ass, so pathetically weak in punishment for the crime, and prevention is weaker still.

Still safer in the air..

abc.net.au wrote: Police at a loss to explain fatal Vic freeway crashPolice say it is a miracle more people were not killed in a horror fatal smash on the Western Ring Road at Sunshine, in Melbourne's west.

A three-month-old baby boy and his three-year-old brother died when the car, being driven by their mother, was hit from behind by a truck at about midday AEDT.

The boys' grandmother is in a serious condition in hospital and their 29-year-old mother has minor injuries.

Police say the impact almost demolished the car, which was then shunted metres down the road.

It took more than an hour to free those in the car and the scene was only reopened to traffic this evening.

Sergeant Darren Williams says it is still not known what caused the crash.

"It's a straight stretch of road, visibility is excellent today," he said.

"Reasons why - that'll obviously come to light as part of our investigation, but at this stage, I can't say I've been to a collision here before.

"Of course it was a pretty big impact on the sedan, it was probably lucky we're not investigating more than more than two fatalities."

Police are speaking to the 29-year-old truck driver.
