I have noticed alot of talk of late in various threads about the digital change over, I suggest that we have a sticky (similar to the stupid road alert sticky) relating to the digital side of things... at least it is scanner related topic... Anyone else got any ideas on this??
I seem to be reading alot of the same things over and over about the changeover to digital and alot of posts seem to cover the same thing.
{EDIT: Good idea! Therefore, I've changed the topic slightly, moved the thread to the WA Police section and made it sticky. --Doug}

Short answer ... no.Awk@night wrote:So when they go digital, as i heard they have started. will we be able to listen with digital scanners??? I know it sounds stupid, but is there a chance that it could happen?
The comms will be both digital and encrypted, going by the information already out there.

In theory yes. From what I remember reading (and this was ages ago so I can't remember the source), breaking the encryption wouldn't be a trivial exercise. It would require some pretty hefty computing resources.Awk@night wrote:Feared that... but encription can be broken!
So it would probably best be described as "encrypted and for all practical purposes, indecipherable with today's technology".
