Bus radio control room

Post by macca1024 »

Hi, does anyone know if there is a central radio dispatch control room for the Transperth busses or are they all spread out? The reason I ask is I've noticed a certain set of talkgroup ID's that drivers communicate with often, I've filled it details with what I've overheard.

Code: Select all

No, there is no central control room as Transperth is only the brand banner that the buses operate under...

From memory 801xx is PATH Transit
802xx is Swan Transit
800xx is Transdev. The last digit is what defines who's talkgroup it is (or what "Channel").

CCR is the callsign for the PATH Transit Control Room
6ST Base is the Callsign for any Swan Transit Base Radio
OCC or xxx Base is the callsign for the Transdev Base Radios.

Hope this helps.
6ST Base is clear, is there a mobile calling on this channel?

That's interesting! It seems like the Transperth bus operations are quite decentralized. How does this setup affect the day-to-day coordination and communication between the different operators?

Hi! Transperth buses are typically coordinated through a central radio dispatch control room to ensure efficient communication and management across the network. The talkgroup IDs you've noticed are likely part of this centralized system, allowing drivers to communicate directly with dispatch for updates, instructions, and assistance. If you have specific details or talkgroup IDs, sharing them could help provide more accurate information.

The above is not correct. There is NOT a centralised Radio Control Centre for Transperth Buses. Each of the 3x private contractors operate within their own contract areas only and do not have direct contact via radio to the other companies depots, supervisors or vehicles.

For the record, PATH Transit have a Central Control Room (known as CCR) which operates out of their Redcliffe depot and covers their contract areas. Transdev and Swan have Traffic Controllers at each depot who answer the radio for their depot, as well as any satellite depots that fall under their home depot. Swan also have an after hours suite which operates between 1800hrs - 05:00hrs and monitors radio communications for all of their depots between the above times.

It doesn't affect day to day running as each depot covers a set contract area (which may consist of multiple depots). radio control for the buses within each contract area is done by either one or all of the depots for that contract (ie some areas one depot may look after radio traffic for multiple depots, where another area, each depot looks after its own buses but they share a common radio channel etc.

If the operators need to communicate between each other for whatever reason then they will phone the respective depot to discuss matters. The exceptions being that all operators are involved in the operation of the Circle Route, therefore it has its own dedicated channel that all operators use, as is the same with the Perth Busport Control Room

As I previously stated:
Transdev Talk group ID's start with 800xx
PATH Transit Talk group ID's start with 801xx
Swan Transit Talk Group ID's start with 802xx.

When a Bus radios through, ID will show as 801934 (the last four digits correspond to the bus no.). Anything above 804014 or whatever the highest delivery is, is usually a portable radio used by Station Supervisors etc...

Some of the base radios will show up as 6445x/6446x.

Any other questions, just ask.
