If you live near Lakeside Joondalup or are driving past on Sunday night there’s no need to be alarmed!
Emergency Services will be in attendance but it’s for an exercise only.
Crews from five DFES stations – Joondalup, Wangara, Butler, Duncraig and Osborne Park – will be responding to simulated fires in the west and southern malls of the shopping centre, with support from Western Australia Police Force and St John Ambulance WA.
SES volunteers will act as live casualties.

Kim Lambkin, DFES Superintendent for the North Coastal Metropolitan Region explained the aim of the multi-agency exercise: "We want to test our standard operating procedures, communications and incident management in case something like this simulated scenario were to actually occur in Perth," he said.

"We greatly appreciate the assistance given to the exercise team by the staff at Lakeside Joondalup in what we hope will be a very worthwhile training opportunity.

"Exercises such as this, on location at a major shopping centre, help to raise our level of preparedness and develop our co-ordination between agencies.

"Most of the activity that will be able to be seen by the public on Sunday evening will be outside the West Mall from 7-10pm."

Fire season for the southern part of WA starts in November, more or less.
