Better late than never:
The O'Connor crews are spare CFRS crews on overtime shifts using vehicles from either the Forrestfield Training Centre or the O'Connor workshops. These crews were using the call sign of "Forrestfield" up until the last fire season, however I was advised by a perm crew at a fire recently that because of Metro VFRS being stationed at the FTC they changed the call sign to avoid potential confusion.

I believe they were using the call sign "O'Conner" as the vehicles were sourced from the O'Conner workshops, not from Forrestfield. In the past they have used vehicles from Forrestfield, but it is possible that all Forrestfield appliances were already committed with staff and volunteer crews at Bullsbrook that day/night.

Just passing on what i got told by an SO. In the 11 shifts i did at the Bullsbrook fire, there were no appliances using a Forrestfield call sign (nor have I heard that call sign come up on the radio at all this season, with the exception of Metro VFRS's 5 appliances), however there were heaps of O'connor appliances at that incident.
