What do the bus numbers mean?

Post by doggie015 »

I've noticed that the transperth bus numbers on the newer busses (the ones with a long beep for the stopping "bell") range from about 1900 to over 3000 (This includes the articulated busses based on the same chassis as the traditional style bus). Did the PTA really purchase over 1100 of them or do the numbers follow some kind of system such as the first number representing the type of bus and the other 3 representing the actual number of the bus in that type?

Well I know the original test artic's were 3001 and 3002, with the new order of artics being 3002 and up (I've seen up to errrm 3019 so far?

The old artic's up this way were a bunch in the 670 range, and couple in the double digits range.

The others I'm not totally sure they are all over the place, although there are not 3000+ buses on the road. Buses were swapped all over the place when companies split/merged as well just to make things more interesting.

Dont quote me on this but i believe the numbers refer to the model number... or series number... then the bus number

like 2000 series/model buses (kinda new) will be numbered 2001, 2002, 2003... etc

and the new buses are 3000 series/models are are numbered 3001, 3002, 3003... etc

Thats what i was told but not 100%

Looking into the link I previously posted it seems the bus models get ordered and allocated a series of numbers as stated: http://www.perthbus.info/prequery.php?q ... 000&cid=10

Numbers are allocated to the next available block at the moment.

With the silver buses, it was originally a case of 1140-1233 for Veolia, 1300-1362 for Connex, 1500-1590 for sWAn, and 1700-1853 for PATH. This went out the door as transfers between companies and contract changes have required the movement of different vehicles and also the large CNG order with the OC500LE's. The silver artics are 3000 - Scania L94UA CNG Demonstrator, 3001 - MAN NG313 (A24) CNG Demonstrator, 3002 - Irisbus Citelis CNG Demonstrator, 3003-3032 Volvo B12BLEA Production. 3033 will be the first of whatever is chosen as the replacement for the B12BLEA Chassis.

CNG OC's:
CAT1-CAT18, CAT20, CAT21, CAT23-CAT25, 1234-1236, 1238-1299, 1591, 1592 1900-1999 and 2200 = Veolia
1363-1434 = PATH
1435-1439 = sWAn
1593-1655 = sWAn
1855-1899, 2000-2012 = PATH
2013-2097 = sWAn

Volvo's are using previously unallocated numbers
1462 (Demonstrator) to PATH, previosuly at sWAn
1466-1499 to sWAn
1656-1699 to sWAn
2216 onwards to Veolia
2300 onwards to PATH.

Green & White buses were allocated the next available number as they arrived
6ST Base is clear, is there a mobile calling on this channel?
