New Wouxun dual band mobile imminent

I've been following a few threads elsewhere over the last few weeks about the new Wouxun TRX and there are rumours abound that it might be released this week.
If you google KG-UV920R you can read plenty about it, fact and rumour, but it looks pretty special for the expected price. Supposedly it will TX on 2m/50w and 70cm/40w (a 2m/220MHz version for the US as well) and receive 0.15-30, 65-220 and 400-520 MHz AM and FM. Unfortunately no 6m RX or SSB for HF :-\
It has most of the features of rigs like the FT8800 (dual rx, cross band repeat, remotable head with dual controls for both bands)
The best rumour is the price expected to be around $200 in the US so probably more like $230-250 here at a guess (WAHAMS reference ). The quality should be great if this one is anything like the dualband handheld.

I recompressed the JPG and uploaded it here. The image quality is still pretty good and a much smaller file than the original.

18 months later.... they are due out this month and quite a bit more expensive than expected ($399 advertised in one VK shop)
I read somewhere that some shops have had demo units but they are not capable of 12.5kHz steps. The real ones will be thanks to new FCC regulations.

Quite possibly ... but hey, if the quality is the same and does the same job why not buy one of them if they are a lot cheaper ... Cheaper in price probably not necessarily means that they are worse in the quality ... there is a possibility that they can sell them cheaper because of they employ underpaid people just like in Foxconn ..hi!,hi! ...

Wouxun seems to be the best pick of the Chinese radios. The hand-helds are very popular. I have the KG-UVD1P dual bander and it's good quality. Should have a KG-679 VHF any day now for APRS.

The UV920R should hopefully be making an appearance at the HamFest in a few weeks.

A US dealer was told not to sell the pre-release units for less than $USD 325 but the price will drop as supply improves. $399 over east...
This is a twin bander like the FT-8800, not a dual bander like the FT-7800/7900. There seems to be some confusion as to the RX frequencies. Original reports said it would RX some HF bands and lower VHF (eg 6 metres) but the pre-release models don't go below 380 MHz by the looks.
It's hard to tell in the video but it looks like the unit comes with a separation kit which would be great.

I got the PDF manuals. If you are in the yahoo group, they are there.
The unit does come with a separation kit. The unit also has a socket on it so you can connect two together and run them as a repeater.
The mike has a speaker in it and the radio has two built in speakers as well as two extension speaker sockets. Just in case you need lots of speakers.
Frequencies are 137-174 and 400-480 (or 222-225) or subsets of those. And of course FM broadcast.

Looks like a nice rig. At $350 odd its the most expensive China radio I've seen. The question is, will it beat the Japanese..?

While Andrews Comms were selling the KG-UVD1P for $199 plus freight I got mine elsewhere for $108 including freight. Hopefully this won't be any different.
Looking at the other cheap Chinese mobile sets available, I think I'd skip right over the lot of them. I guess we'll see very soon. There will probably be some AnyTones at Hamfest.
Either way, I think I'd rather have one of these stolen from my car than an FT-8800 or IC-2820.
