As Gav said, I'm using an old PIII, UI-View32, AGW PE via a sound card, 4N25 optocoupler from the comm port to key up the transceiver and an FM92. I'm configured as a fill-in digipeater (testing, since I'm already testing the radio anyway) Or you could just buy a Tracker2 or Tiny Trak 4.
Where are you planning on digipeating? I wouldn't imagine there's a need for a full digipeater in Scarborough. I'm not repeating much in Swanbourne; usually just myself and anybody with APRS who drops by.

Hey Robbage, long time no see, My new home in Karrinyup is there where ill be digipeating. :D
Another issue ive got now is that when I went to download it, it only gave me very few options of what country I lived in.
Im interested in getting into Packet and just wanted to see how it might work out. The Area im I seems to be quite high.
When ever I use UI view it only gives me the UK. comes up with UK maps. Just wondering if you knew if you can change what country youre in?

I guess you can just suck it and see. You'll probably get jack of it coming over your voice 2m pretty quick ;-)
I just put VK6AHR-3 digipeater on air today. Although the icon is at our clubhouse in Lesmurdie, it's physically portable in Swanbourne at the moment. It'll be moved up to the club in about two weeks. We're using a Kantronics KPC-3.

Dozen mada. Just click Britain, download it, and also register it. When your registration code comes through you've got everything you need to make UI-View work.

Same. I like. I'm buying some more hardware shortly. Probably enough stuff to make a tiny mobile set (eg when I'm on foot or in my wife's car) and a weather station.

UI-View comes with a limited set of bitmapped images for maps. Anything else you have to make or download. There are no Aussie maps supplied. If you want to PM me your email address I'll send you the maps I've created.
Also make sure you visit aprs.net.au

Wonderfull, Thanks Robbage. I tried experimenting with it this eavening.

One thing that occoured to me was if you have a whole bunch of digipeaters, how does it work without them all doubling with each other when they repeat the transmition, (and then i presume Gavins setup then takes it onto the internet)?

I had a little trouble configuring the digipeater setup,

as the aliases i have the following text "VK6NAH, WIDE1-1"
and sub alias i have "WIDE1-1"

and digi routs 1=1
2=2

Good to see more APRS activity, once you have it sorted please only beacon every 30 mins to avoid packet collisions.
Perth is starting to get quite busy 8)

Yes, Gav is an igate (internet gate) as is Duncan 6GHZ.
Preventing digipeaters from TXing at the same time comes down to planning mostly. When I set up the KPC-3, I just watched which digipeaters responded first and how quickly then upped the delay a bit to avoid it. The KPC-3 listens for data and won't send until it's clear for the delay time. I don't think it's possible to eliminated it completely. With the number of digipeaters we have now, it shouldn't matter.
slipknot wrote:I had a little trouble configuring the digipeater setup,
Google it. It's not obvious just by looking at the config window. I don't have my config handy at the moment. It's at work.
slipknot wrote:and digi routs 1=1

If you are using one radio and one port on AGW PE then the routes probably should be 1=1. If you have two ports then it's probably set up wrong. It might still work though if the same data is on both ports. Hard to say without seeing the setup.

Bugger that! It was enough walking from Wrest Point to Queens Domain. That's my exercise for 2010! :)

I think I see your callsign written in those tracks :-)

While I'm here, the Hills Amateur Radio Group (HARG) have just officially put their digipeater VK6AHR-3 onsite and online in Lesmurdie here.
