New Yaesu VHF & UHF models

Post by robbage »

Andrews have the new Yaesu mobiles listed FT-1900R 2m, FT-2900R 2m and FT-7900R dual
http://www.andrewscom.com.au/site-conte ... -yaesu.htm
Only the 7900 is priced.
Presumably they are replacements for the 1802, 2800 and 7800

I'm a Yaesu fan but I'm a bit disappointed by the new radios. Did they do anything other than bump up the output power?

I read that it includes a new memory only mode. Whatever that means. I guess the FT7800 does not have that. I see it is not listed on the Australian Vertex site yet so appears to be import only. USA usually get things before they are released in Australia.

I haven't read all the specs but from a TX POV it doesn't look much different. 5w increase on 1900, 10w on 2900 isn't exactly ground-breaking :)

I wonder which will be the first to have a rig with an Ipod docking port. I see the FTM-350R has a line input for listening to your favorite stereo music from other devices.

Pity it's not (or doesn't appear to be) DIN size.

Andrews Communications are getting them in May - $849. Very competitive!

Strictly Ham's website is saying "in stock, call for pricing".

Which probably explains the comment on the Andrews site:
We challenge scared competitors to advertise their pricing for this radio!

S.H quoted me a price of $895.00 plus $12.00 express post.
A few reviews on eham say the radio locks up from time to time.

I tell you what Martin, by the time the FT350 gets to the Mark V version all those bugs should be ironed out.
