I've seen QFs and others with a/c icon. Noticed a few CWOPs as well.

Can you answer a question that i have

i am in the middle of upgrading to Standard and i am going to get a new mobile radio soon

i want one that is aprs (or equivilant) in the new radio.

Do the Icom D-star radios also the same thing as the Yeesu radios that are aprs/wires capable ?

i dont know that much about this new stuff - dont shoot me down - but i would like to know the most i can about it so i can make an informed choice on a radio suitable to my needs

i am familiar with icom radios - never touched a yaesu radio as yet - hence my questions.

thanks for your time and reply

cheers

As far as I know:

- D-STAR has DPRS. I don't know if it links or can be linked into the local APRS freq or not. It does link into aprs.fi
- Some Kenwood mobiles have APRS built in.. look at the TM-D710A. I think you need a GPS receiver?

Yep, it also needs a GPS receiver plugged into it, but they're a good unit.

That new Yaesu you mentioned a short time ago Robbage also has the APRS stuff built in - the FTM-350R

Oh yeah. I think the GPS is an option on that one as well.

so would i be right in saying (or guessing)..

that provided the radio unit either has a gps in it/attached to it - the service of "WIRES/D-Star/APRS" are all the same function - just different names depending on the manufacturer???

whatever radio i choose - as long as it has "WIRES/D-Star/APRS" capability - i too can be spied on whilst i drive too ? (when i upgrade my licence)....

i find this new topic interesting and has opened up another new world....

No completely different , google will sort you out.
You want an APRS radio and GPS if you want to be tracked.
