They are an excellent device - BRB. Whilst working on the road I was able to travel from Perth to Bunbury, all around the South-West region and back to Perth achieving coverage all the way - thanks to VK6KSB's Digi too!

Quike a remarkable unit considering it's only a 5W 'radio'.

My setup is the BRB and a Mag Mount with the whip cut to length on 2m.

argh! My tinytrak isn't being decoded by vk6rth-3. Must be something with the way it encodes the audio that the KPC TNCs don't like.

Fixed now. Changed the PIC back to the Byonics ROM and RTH is now hearing me again. Yay!

The BigRedBee & 5 watts on the mag mount was received up the Brand Hwy to 25kms south of Regans Ford via the Tic Hill digi. About 74kms.

I have just ordered myself a Byonics Micro-Trak AIO

Thanks Rob, glad to hear that its working well!

Not bad for 5W and a Mag Mount!

Just need a few more now to get on-board and get the APRS happening around town.

For sure :)

I got pretty consistent coverage up to Two Rocks through the Tic Hill digi and I thought that was impressive! (Using 30W though)

It is. Because RTH is performing so well, I've given RVP a dose of patience pills. RVP is hearing us, but it's holding off relaying the frame long enough for RTH to get in first. Any packets that appear to have been digipeated by RVP are ones that were while you were in range of RVP but were not received by RTH.

The frame as transmitted:

Code: Select all

Thu Oct 1 09:07:38 2009 VK6HGR-9>APT311,WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2:/010737h3153.67S/11555.45E>045/000/A=000269
The WIDE1-1 path will be replayed by my home station (VK6HGR-1), VK6RTH, and VK6RVP. The * in the callsign or alias (WIDEx-x) is a shorthand which means "relayed by". Note the times on the packets: RVP is always a second or so behind RTH. aprs.fi, findu.com etc only display the first packet received and ignore duplicates.

Code: Select all

Thu Oct 1 09:07:39 2009 VK6HGR-9>APT311,VK6RTH-3,WIDE1*,WIDE2-2:/010737h3153.67S/11555.45E>045/000/A=000269
Thu Oct 1 09:07:40 2009 VK6HGR-9>APT311,VK6RVP-1*,WIDE1,WIDE2-2:/010737h3153.67S/11555.45E>045/000/A=000269
Thu Oct 1 09:07:42 2009 VK6HGR-9>APT311,VK6HGR-1,WIDE1*,WIDE2-2:/010737h3153.67S/11555.45E>045/000/A=000269
(Argh. Just noticed: RVP should be putting a * on WIDE1... I'll have to look at its programming)

Well the BRB is working well, GPS is a little inaccurate though!!! (lol)

It does seem that VK6RLK isnt recieving my packets today. Will have to look into that.

If you're sure that RLK Is hearing you but you're not appearing on the internet, try using a path of WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2 as I can't hear RLK from here.
