heh - yeah, I think the propagation gods were with us this arvo 8)

Not that sort of port :-)
There's a thing to pack for the next one! No Wine for Mac (that I'm aware of) but I do have XP dual booting on the MacBook. Otherwise I would have been using paper today.

The eeePC would have been ideal, will get Wine running on that. Next time Gadget...

I get the same with linux distros; some allow you to set whether the hardware clock is local or UTC, others don't and I can never remember which it is anyway.

192 contacts on HF for VK6SR. We were portable at Lake Nunijup, approx 100km north of Albany.

FT-920 and TS-2000 into a 40/80m dipole, 20m dipole and a random-wire for 160m.

Ops: VK6BL, VK6LD and VK6WX.

Very hard going getting antennas up with gusty winds and rain, and not so good conditions on HF. A fun weekend nonetheless.

You guys did great considering the conditions. I had snow, rain, hail & lightning.

Only managed to log 20 contacts. :? Was very hard going.

Man thats the most fun ive had on amater radio before, got to speak to alot of people and made some good distances on 2m SSB. I managed to get 446 contacs but was aiming for 500 :x
Well done to everyone who participated even if it was only 1 or two contacs, they all add up.

HF wasn't working for me at all. I got 1 VK3 on 40m and 8 contacts with meg on 10m SSB & FM. That's it.
The weather was kind to us Sunday arvo portable. It rained to and from the site but not while I was there :-)
What let us down more than anything was power for notebook PC. Need to sort that one out before the next comp.

What antenna did you use for HF ? I got a dozen eastern states contacts using a 1/2 size G5RV before the storms damaged it.

Out of curiosity how long and high was the random wire for 160M. I heard you guys were S9 +10 into Perth.

G'day Martin,

We probably had 40M of electrical cable out as the radiator - Tied from the verandah post out to a tree, then right angles across to another tree.

Used the verandah post (and hopefully the verandah itself) as the counterpoise.

The antennas for all bands were simple wires. 20M inverted V was a couple of 5M pieces of speaker wire that we found.

We did OK on 160M using 100w. Worked to stations on the east coast & VK7 - I can't remember if we worked any ZL's on 160M or not.

This year was the first year I had worked solely on HF for the RD contest. Much harder than working FM on UHF & VHF in the city where contacts are like shooting fish in a barrel!

Wes, Jane & Bevan did a great job organising the food & beverages. I don't know how many other portable RD stations had their own coffee machine!

Cheers,

40m ¼ wave. I really need to sort out a dipole but the weather isn't helping.
