That's for sure.. I've noticed the IC-706 in some cases has gone up by $300 in less than 9 months and one of the grey market sellers isn't selling it or the IC-7000 at all.Danger Mouse wrote:With the fluctuating dollar it is very risky.

Re: amatuer radio shop in perth
Has anyone bought from Andrews Com in NSW? (www.andrewscom.com.au) What are they like?
I'm looking at the new Yaesu FT-7900 and Andrews have it for $399, I rang Prestige and they say it's not released yet and won't have it for at least 2 more weeks. I don't know if I can wait two weeks!

No manufacturers warranty, as they aren't a Yaesu dealer...Craig wrote:Has anyone bought from Andrews Com in NSW? (http://www.andrewscom.com.au) What are they like?

Re: amatuer radio shop in perth
What fastlane said. Andrews import them and therefore only offer 1 year warranty which is what they are legally bound to by law. And also why they have them even though they "aren't released yet." I'd wait two weeks and get three years manufacturers warranty. Also if you need to return it to Prestige, it's a quick trip and no freight if you are in Perth.

Are you sure about that? On their Yaesu pagerobbage wrote: Andrews import them and therefore only offer 1 year warranty which is what they are legally bound to by law.
They do their own warranty repairs so you are right it's not a manufacturers warranty. Postage from them seems quite fast. I have bought stuff from them before. My recent radio purchases however I decided to go with a authorised dealer but my FT8800r was purchased from them 3 years ago and has not given me any grief.

Re: amatuer radio shop in perth
No I'm not They are imported (according to their site a couple of weeks ago) so I'll rephrase that. They aren't required to supply a manufacturer's warranty.
They aren't listed on Vertex Australia's list of authorised dealers that I can see or is that a different company?

I've purchased from them in the past and they were OK to deal with. Didn't have any problems.Craig wrote:Has anyone bought from Andrews Com in NSW? (http://www.andrewscom.com.au) What are they like?

Re: amatuer radio shop in perth
Thanks for the replies. I think I'll wait and see what price Prestige can do and if it's pretty close to $399, go with them. If not I'll take a risk on the grey import from Andrews.

Re: amatuer radio shop in perth
I'll agree with you there..they do import, they are not a authorised dealer so they can't supply an authorised warranty but they have their own technicians and supply their own warranty which according to their webpage is 3 years not the one year suggested.robbage wrote:No I'm not They are imported (according to their site a couple of weeks ago) so I'll rephrase that. I have bought a few things from them and have always found them quick to post the gear off and pricewise fairly good. As mentioned above I have bought from them in the past. On a personal note, my last purchase was from an authorised dealer because the Australian version offered more included extra's than the import for the same price. In the past and I will stress in the past imported radios sometimes had different "channel" spacings and features were not really used in Australia. Nowadays they seem to be fairly standard.
If you later require repairs you stand the chance that Yaesu or Icom (if you buy an Icom) will not repair it as it is an import so you only have the one option in that case, deal with the grey importer again. This goes for all grey importers not only Andrews.
Will I buy a grey import again. Probably, after weighing up the pro's and cons. The main thing is research well before buying.
