I think the band is open or there's a CW contest on 80m. This is recorded with my FT-857 CW filter on!

So can you decode it now by ear and let the rest of us know what they were talking about? :smt081

Sounds like a free-for-all. Way too fast for me. I guess your antenna is working to some degree anyway

Hey - I'm picking it up really well too! Any idea of where it's originating from? There are some crazy almost bell-like tones in the background sometimes.

You can use software to decode morse, cw-get is one example.

There are some weird sounds on 80m keep an ear out around 3.7MHz for the chanting monks.

The morsers are at it again - same frequency but much fainter tonight.

And some more (much slower) on about 3.687

Possibly the QRSS beacon of VK6ADI in Beverley which operates on 3.686MHz and what I read was a whopping 90mW output.

The Hills group have a morse tutor around that frequency as well.

I'm hearing it again tonight. Do y'all have any more info on the HARG morse tutor or the beacon in Beverley? I'd be really interested to figure out if its one of these - the (physically) closest HF signal I've received if it is one.

edit - found some info on the HARG tutor - if it's still on 3.685.5 then I can't hear anything on that freq

Hi Meg
The HARG tutor is on a timer and is on in the morning ( I can't remember the time) and again in the evening from about 7pm to 9pm.

Thanks Martin - I'll try listening for it on the other frequency tomorrow night. I'm still getting morse on 3.687. It must be a beacon somewhere, it sounds very regular.
