Hi all.
Does anyone know a way to program the memory scan channels for the Yaesu FT7800 by computer?

Horay! you need something like that for a radio that has about 1000 channels.

The main reasons I use the icom equivalent are so I have a backup (save as a file) and so I can see an overall view of the main channels to spot things I miss (like I usually forget to set the tone freq and bank). I can also envision using the software to create multiple memory files for radios that have limited channels (eg a handheld that gets taken from city to city... just upload the channels for Melbourne when you land, upload Perth when you leave etc)

You should be able to use the same hardware interface for the FT857 If so, you can use Ham Radio Deluxe or similar on that

The data jack on the FT7800 is a 6pin mini DIN same as my FT8800 and the CAT socket on the FT857 is a 8pin mini DIN so the plug will not fit into both rigs. Modified it might or using a small conversion arrangement it probably would work as there is probably not much or no difference to the electronics involved, just different plugs. The data jack on the FT857 is the same as on the 7800 but is for audio data in and out not programming. Note: data jack on FT7800 and CAT jack on FT857 are used for programming. Same as on the FT897d and most likely the FT817nd

I use the software mentioned by Robbage (http://www.g4hfq.co.uk) and it works well and very reasonably priced at $23AUS and interface cables from eBay work well.

Its a good idea to have the facility to store,modify and upload frequencies as it is generally easier to do and if you are like me and have pressed the wrong button on the FT8800r and things go wrong a microprocessor reset is required and it's much easier to upload from a PC than manually input frequencies. An added advantage is the CAT cable for the FT857 will also allow Ham Radio Deluxe to be used to control the radio as Robbage mentioned

Jeez they are all different. my FT-1802 uses the PTT pin on the mike socket which is the same mike as the 7800
