Haha me either! Mine died ages ago, I too had a 3000XLT, same as what Gavin was talking about. But it expired some time ago so any scanning I do now is from the amateur set :P

Well done to all, I think we did OK especialy with coping from the phantom DTMF'er and a rapid change of repeater.

Can't believe an hour went past with us just yakking on.

And the best part was, for possibly the first time ever I was in a group conversation and not in a permanent state of confusion. I tend to get into groups while mobile, and it's damn difficult to concentrate on who's turn it is next *AND* drive in a relatively straight line and remember to stop for traffic lights :P

I hear ya!! :smt101

I remember it was frustrating in the early days of IRLP - a lot of nodes were on dial-up so they were using crappy low-bandwidth codecs... driving, while being in a net, while talking to some bloke who sounded like he was gargling underwater and used weird phonetics to spell his callsign... ahh the challenge! :-)

Agreed with nets while mobile. I keep 10% concentration on the radio and the remaining 20% on driving.

Wow, that much? I'm not sure I even have 20% normally, even without using the radio :P

Yeah why not...then you just need 1 radio to bring the waves together and in the darkness QSO them, 1 radio to rule them all

hehe ok ok. Sorry couldn't join in tonight apart from my less than ideal location family is also getting ready for cousins and grandmother from overseas so we're trying to get things sorted. I will have to sort something out, as most of my trips aren't long enough to have a good chat and I always seem to miss everyone. At least Doug and I know it's 70cm jobby for us to chat when we're at work in Midland. 2m doesn't want to play.

Well we started on RFM so that someone could link in if they wanted, but we encountered someone who thought it would be funny to just transmit DTMF over and over again trying to establish outgoing links.

So we moved elsewhere, but lost the ability to have someone link into the conversation.

Oh well, next time ...

No worries - as Zebedee said, we ended up moving repeaters too.

I'm up for next week, I may even have a radio that can do 70cm by then also if that makes repeater choice easier :)
