Amateur information beacon VK6RIB

Post by ConstableCare »

I noticed this morning whilst scanning the bands that there appears to be a new beacon on 2M - 145.575MHz? Anyone else heard it? I can't read morse code so I don't know what it says but the morse is quite faint.

Signal is around S2-3 NOR.

Perhaps just someone using morse on the frequency (rather than a beacon)?

No, it was a continuous carrier with the Morse coming up every 10 or so minutes. It was just a carrier wave for the rest of the time like someone was holding down a button. It went on for hours and hours but is not there this morning? Only S2-S3 at best NOR yesterday.

Do you have the ability to record if it comes up again? According to the band plan, that freq is available for information beacons

Unfortunately I don't have a tape recorder or anything attached to my scanner. Shame really cause it definately was an FM signal with some sort of morse identification attached at regular intervals.

Information Beacon

Post by VK6??? »

Has anyone heard this new beacon that is currently under test? It's on 145.575Mhz but only seems to be putting out a Carrier Wave and a Morse ID at present??

Appears it originates from the Ham College HQ in Lynwood, WA.... See: http://hamcollege.com.au/wordpress/?page_id=33

Doug, any info?

Thanks Rob. It is still going by the sound of it? Definately coming from the Lynwood area.

It's currently under test as you say. Be interested to see who can pick up the transmissions.

Not quite. Once testing has been completed, the beacon will be operating from a location in the Perth hills, so as to give better coverage over the metro area. But there's still work to be done to tie all the loose ends together.

Other than what's written on the URL you quoted above, there's not really anything more to say. It gave a fairly good run down on what's happened so far.

So ... go on, clue us in ... what's the "???" part? :P

I've listened in a couple times but haven't heard it so I don't think it's making it up this far. Needs altitude. No voice yet?

Same from my QTH. Nothing just yet, but that's fine, there's still work to be done ;)

I'm not able to hear it either. Whereabouts in the hills will its new location be?
