Yep - Roy's Helpline is currently in the playlist loop, and would still be carried on the "odd" hour, along with the WIA News and relevant NewsWest content.

I forgot to mention - it's coming in much louder now up our way, still a bit noisy but a vast improvement.

There is a mp3 download of the news available and also they mentioned an echolink feed but I didb't write the number down. The current MP3 will have that I think. Check Danger Mouse's posts for the link

Beacon is becoming very boring now... Novelty appears to be wearing off with some VK6'ers....

When's it going to have something more vibrant on it rather than the same old News stuff?

Did you bother to read my post in this very thread on the 31st Jan?

Of course, nobody's holding a gun to your head and forcing you to listen to the beacon, if you find it boring, please feel free to change frequencies to something more to your taste...

Plenty of ideas actually. The beacon is off air for a while. I'll let you know when it's back.

Doh, gotta hate putting something into production only for something to happen and be required to take it down...i.e What has been done with the unit's server.

Yeah - there's no fault in the system, it's more a logistical issue at the moment and for the various volunteers involved to be able to find some spare time to resolve them.

As with anything, if sufficient resources were to be applied, the resolution time would be faster, but as with any volunteer-run project, we can only work with the resources we have available - which includes people's valuable time.

Do enough people know how the system works? I see WARG are doing some training for people who want to be able to help out maintaining their gear. So it doesn't end up being the same person all the time.

You can never have enough people knowing how something works, but at least the system is pretty well documented, so if the people who do know get run over by a bus tomorrow, it wouldn't be a complete mystery ;)

Depends.. sometimes being indispensable is very handy

Good to know! The documentation I mean, not the bus thing. Is the information publicly available? Just curious.

The intention is that yes it will be eventually... The computer side of the project is fully documented, but not the radio side yet. Once the whole lot has been completed, we hope to package it up and then make it available to other radio clubs, or interested parties...

Good to hear.. This is the first information beacon in VK I think? With a bit of luck it will prompt other locations to do the same.
