I think that's one of the key things about the Quanshengs. For someone just getting into the hobby, there's already a fair outlay to get licenced. Then there's the fact that since they are on the cheaper side, they do well as second or backup radios, for those times when you don't want to take your "good" radio somewhere for whatever reason. I still have both of my Quanshenge - they don't get much use any more, but I've got 'em just in case
