I used to service some microfilm gear up there in the belfry. I don't remember anyone specifically but I remember I liked visiting, which means the people were nice, because the gear was cr@p Possibly the same vintage as the radios they like.

Yep, that's my workplace - you've captured it perfectly! We still have the microfilm stations (probably the same ones as you encountered) - my gig is the slow conversion to digital...
