RD contest

Post by robbage »

Anybody contesting in the RD tonight/tomorrow? Where will most of the FM action happen? I have no way to receive SSB.

Check out http://www.wia.org.au/members/contests/rdcontest for info.

I'll try having a go from home on HF.

You can get a good description of what the RD contest is from the link given above by WPXZBP. Yes you can participate on VHF/UHF but not via Echolink. The trick for you would be to find someone in your area to exchange numbers with.

The first 30 mins 2m FM was insane. 70cm was slow.

Radio waves only. Simplex only. 2m/70cm won't be much chop away from the general population. Definitely read the rules. Listen in just after 6pm between 146.4 and 146.6 when the 2 hour limit is up.

I guess you did not need to ask the question in the first post...easy enough to find the action I think.

Well that was a waste of time. My home rig seems to be putting out zero watts. I wonder if the finals have gone. I then went mobile and was not heard by anyone. (Like transmitting into a dummy load....)

Not really. It took me 90 minutes on 4 bands to work that out. I'm not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. I also worked out I have no chance of receiving anything worth while on 6m or 10m with my gear :-\

I'm going to try and have a go tomorrow if I can. Just have to work out how to do it while portable in VK5 ;)

Gday all
I will be on 29.200 MHz FM and 28.400 MHz USB if any Perth stations want a contact on Sunday.
Don't forget you need to start a new log for HF .
Cheers

Didn't that happen last year as well ?

Nope... not even tried to enter since about 2005.

Never had a working HF antenna last year and was still a bit miffed about some of the rule changes.

Next year I might go to Perth and do the VHF/UHF thing again.

Pity I don't have any gear ATM. I would've had a go and given some points to serious contesters. I won the VHF Phone section in the 90's some time (can't remember the year) and it was a real buzz.

May get back into AR one of these days...

Good to see you here Phil. You might remember doing some 'testing with me at NCRG in Carine. I also won the VHF section a few years ago.

Do it. Took me 28 years to get back into it.
