you know how CB is 5 Watts maximum?
Whats it with amature radio?

Depends upon the licence class.

Amateur radio :-)

In Australia, the maximum allowed transmit power depends on the class of license you hold (and technically speaking, the transmission mode).

For FM and other constant-carrier modes:

Foundation license: 10W
Standard license: 30W
Advanced license: 100W

For FM
Foundation 3 watts
Standard 30 watts
Advanced 120 watts

For SSB ( peak envelope power )
Foundation 10 watts
Standard 100 watts
Advanced 400 watts

Oops. You're right... Typo by me... 120W by Advanced.

They fixed the accidental 3W limit for Foundation to make it 10W for FM.

ACMA said yes to 10 watts for FM Foundation .... but it's not in the LCD yet so it's still 3 watts.

See page 18 of the LCD.

Yeah the letter of the law vs the spirit of the law I reckon... No foundie will get busted for using 10W in the mean time :-)

The new LCD is taking forever to be made official. :-(

wow 400 watts, thats for ham radio i guess.
on amautre, do you get all the frequencies to use (excluding ssb)?

what i mean is , i know that there are some vhf and uhf amature, what are the basic frequencies you should get? depending on what licence you get.

so let me get this strait, I just purchased a $350 radio with the wrong wattage on it?

on fm voice mode, is it 10 watts for foundation, or 3 watts?

The rules have been changed, foundation operators can run 10 watts all modes.
