Hello Rob, thank's for the information ... That's kind of interesting ... if HF was out of bounds for Limited and VHF/UHF was out of bound for Novice means that a Limited Licensee can only use VHF/UHF and a Novice licensee can only use HF ? :smt017

It was quite the surprise to us as well! It's all to do with the way the new licence requirements are published. It says a prac is required for the first grade of licence after the date the system changed. While they translated the old licence levels to the new ones, because the prac was something new, it applied equally across the board, whether you're just starting out, or have been licenced for 30+ years. Bizarre but there you go.

What I don't agree with though, is the need to sit (and pay for) a separate practical exam if you're not starting at Foundation level. Ham College have asked the WIA to look into how a practical exam can be incorporated into any theory exam, rather than it being only incorporated into the Foundation exam as it is currently.

To date, there's been no answer from the WIA, but it's going to take a little while - they need to demonstrate to the ACMA that it can be done and is fair (as per the ACMA's cost recovery rules)...

Yes indeedy, just like the cost recovery for selecting your own callsign rather than have them do it.

Yep, the fees are quite bizarre and somewhat artificial. Not the WIA's fault, they have to comply with what the ACMA stipulate. But everything has to be costed as if someone were being paid to do the job, rather than have volunteers do it (as is usually the case with WIA functions).

Fridays after lunchtime seem to be when they do Amateur stuff, the number of people who've said their callsign has appeared on a Friday seems to be quite common ;)

Thanks and its a 380 I cant remember the letters with it, Its in the car at the moment everytime I hit PTT it does a beep but doesnt transmit. It isnt fully programmed yet il get a tech I know to have a look at it I think because it can be set up for calling aswel its likely to be one minor setting hidden somewhere.
