I did ... Standard Theory and Regs down, and with a truckful of luck, Advanced Theory by the end of the year

Courses:

Saturday & Sunday, 19 â€“ 20 July 2008
Saturday & Sunday, 20 â€“ 21 September 2008
Saturday & Sunday, 22 â€“ 23 November 2008

The courses are two full days (9am to 5pm on the Saturday 10am to 5pm on the Sunday) and will teach you everything you need to know to get on air as a Foundation licensee.

Exams are run once a month - if you've done a Foundation course, the exam will be the following weekend. People wanting to sit their Standard or Advanced theory, or Standard/Advanced Regs can also book in for one of the exam dates ... which are:

Saturday 31st May
Saturday 28th June
Saturday 26th July
Saturday 30th August
Saturday 27th September
Saturday 25th October
Saturday 29th November
Saturday 20th December

THANKS! - how many watts can you transmitt on with foundation licence?

All i know is that with the advanced get 400 watts ssb
and about 130 on AM and FM.

Damn, Becuase im trying to get a mobile radio that can be set to 10 watts. There was a radio that a saw that was good but unfortuneatly only has the presets of 5 - 15 - 50 watts. 5 is too low, 15 is too high.

What are you after ive got a 2m mobile radio in the box been used twice its a yaesu ft1802 m/e its power settings are 5w 10w 25w 50w if your interested in buying it let me know.Cheers Grant vk6ngs

I found one! Its a Yeasu radio (if thats how you spell it) Has the presets of 5 10 15 and 50 i think, Definatly has 10 so thats great. Now i just have to work out how to get the training and exam all the way down where i live.

10 watts in Karrinyup is more than enough power. Make sure your antenna is a couple of meters above the roof line.

do you think so? I hopefully should be able to hit the joondalup repeater , That is , if it has irlp, can anyone confirm this.

The exam for the Foundation licence is normally the next Saturday after the course, but if you talk Ham College, perhaps they can suggest an alternative to having to come back to Perth again...

As for repeaters and IRLP, if you look at the website of the WA Repeater Group (WARG), you'll see that there's a few 2m and 70cm repeaters around the place. The list shows that VL6RLM in Lesmurdie in on EchoLink and VK6RVP in Vic Park and VK6RFM in Freo are both on IRLP. From the Northern Corridor Radio Group, VK6RNC in Wanneroo also has an IRLP node number.

You shouldn't have any trouble hitting at least one of those repeaters from Karrinyup. Heck, if I can get into Roleystone on a 5 Watt handheld from Neerabup, anything's possible
