Remembrance day contest

Post by vk6hgr »

Hi All.

For the next 24 hours, the Amateur Radio remembrance day contest is on.

Have a listen on VHF/UHF calling channels listed below. For each callsign you hear, make a note of it with the band (2m or 70cm for 146Mhz and 438Mhz), a signal strength and signal quality (if you don't have a signal meter on your scanner, use 59) and a serial number beginning with 001.

You could win an award certificate if you log enough stations :-)

Log file example:
Time Band From To Serial
16:00 2m VK6HGR VK6WIA 59001
16:05 70cm VK6HGR VK6RRG 59002
FM frequencies to keep an eye on: (and surrounding frequencies)
146.500, 146.525, 146.550
438.000, 439.000
Plenty of action on SSB and HF bands as well. Should be an interesting scanning event if you're keen!

Pity I'm up in Karratha right now. The trusty old T90A doesn't pump out too much. I think my score this year will be zero. :(

I got over a hundred on 2m SSB/FM, a few dozen on 70cm FM and (a first for me) a handful of contacts on 6m SSB and FM.

Got 210 points :-)

Methinks my FT-100 isn't putting out much power on VHF/UHF. :( Hope the finals aren't blown.

Wish I knew. :smt102 Just observed the power out display wasn't showing anything. :-k Measured it at JRC's place - ¼W on both 2 and 70. #-o :smt022

SRF7043s are rare as rocking horse poop. I have had one reply from a query for US$57 each but that doesn't sound right.... should be closer to US$200+ if available.

Oh man, that sucks.

My FT-857 got a good work-out during the RD contest. 100W on 6 metres... Hope none of the neighbours were watching analogue channel 2 TV on Saturday!

It seems the FT 100s are known for doing that.
Check out this site for replacement finals.

Yep - did that one already. Thanks for offering help though. Seems like Yaesu have spoiled what could have been the best mobile radio ever by choosing such a garbage FET in the finals.
