Old hams vital role in troubled times

CHADWICK Stelzl unrolled the window of his light truck and stuck his head out just in time to see a creamy grey funnel cloud bearing down from the Texas sky.

Before getting out of the way, the amateur storm spotter for the National Weather Service had a job to do: alert the weather service on his ham radio.

I t is a pity the Australian governments do not place the same importance on amateur radio operators ,in fact in some circles they are scoffed at .
How soon they forget that the only communications after cyclone Tracey devastated Darwin was Amateur Radio. And then I think he had a problem with people believing......
