Radio for new licencee - (Split from "Icom IC-R20 Review")

tis ic-r20 just receive only?? or .. can it function like normal 2way radio,...????

can it communicate with others like normal walkie talkie???

any brand that u can introduce for me???


kenwood TH-D72A good o not???

You need a licence to use the TH-D72A. (There's no such thing as a walkie talkie really) You will need a licence or other authorisation to use most radios that can transmit. Have you considered a CB?

Good news about the licence. Hopefully the moderator of this sectiopn will move this part of the discussion to the amateur radio section.
The Kenwood is a fairly high end handheld for amateur use at around $700, not to mention the APRS functions are not allowed for foundation licences.
Have a look at this page There are better priced handheld amateur radios there.
