Yep - last one in stock at the Newcastle street store.

And we have it running! Now to read the manual and find out how to WORK it!

Thankyou one and all!

The FT-990 PSU is also switchmode.

Sorry its bad.
I had that power supply for about 6 hours. They generate too much noise on HF and block out incoming signals.
I got this one instead

The cheaper 20amp one would suit your needs.

Thanks guys. I turned the radio back on (who can resist?) and tuned in a number of SW stations, though couldn't hear any amateur traffic.

I'll look at getting the upgraded model when my license turns up and I'm more determined to hear people (rather than broadcasters) :D

(Please, I'm still overexcited that the lights go on when I hit the power button!)

You wont damage the radio but you will hear a lot of buzzing noises as you tune up and down the band.

Well, it's less noisy than the one at Ham College - thanks for letting me know that at least I won't damage the radio. I'll definitely go and track down one of the others to have in time for my license coming through :)

Let us all know the frequency the on-air party is going to happen on ( oh and of course when).
Congratulations to those who sat and passed.

Hi all,

A bit of an update :)

Got another power supply from Jaycar tonight, this one as recommended by VK6ZMS
http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.as ... BCATID=381

Am now listening to a conversation on 3.610mhz (LSB), faint and I can't make out the entire callsign but VK4_S - so someone in Queensland??? So the new power supply has definitely made a big difference :D

Thanks again to everyone for your help, I think I'm getting closer to a good setup :D

Hi meg
Its good to see the power supply made a difference.
If you listen between 7:00 - 7.1 MHz now you will hear more stations.
At 8pm tonight ( Perth time ) a 40m net starts around 7:092 MHz.
Cheers

Listening in on 40m now - can't hear the VK6 caller well enough to understand them at all, but the VK2 and VK3 people are coming through well.
