Well bit the bullet and ordered some gear.

Yaesu FT-8800, Diamond SG7000 and want to get a Yaesu VX-7R (I work in the city, so will be useful to me).

Hopefully it will all arrive on Monday.

Anyone care to 'assist' with a radio install? ;)

Nice! I got the VX-7R setup in the car, though I'm finding that I usually put it in my bag when at work. Or am I just looking for an excuse to get a proper "mobile" unit???

...get a proper unit Meg, on the 7R the most you can transmit is 5W it's great when someone from freo tells you they're receiving you well on Simplex or the one evening I think it was heading down further south.

Fastlane, I can help with the programing of the 7R in fact we can make up a data transfer cable and I can just transfer the settings, frequencies and names (suburb/town) to yours.

I'd be happy to help Fastlane but it would have to be the 16th or later and during working hours

RadiGearPro are now selling the Yaesu FT-817ND QRP (low power) all-mode all-band rig here http://www.radiogearpro.com/main/produc ... cts_id=806 for $AUD816. Nice little allrounder for Foundation calls.

I think I would rather pay $899 and get a 6 year warranty. :D If I was after one that is.

So would I, which is why I crossed them off my list for an FT-7900. It's a much better deal that Strictly are offering today...

You ppl that keep talking about id rather a 6 year warranty(ANDREWS WARRANTY) really need to do ur homework and speak to ppl that have had a andrews warranty. Its not worth the hassle ur going face when u try and get ur radio fixed. He doesnt cover half the stuff a factory warranty will.If it looks 2 good it is 2 good.Im not bagging the guy ive bought gear from him and still do i just wont buy another radio from him again.Cheers Grant vk6ngs

Horses for courses, surely. Some people may be entirely satisfied with what's on offer, whereas for others they may be looking for something different.

I too have bought from Andrews before, and a number of other Australian based and overseas (eBay!) retailers. I do my homework beforehand and know exactly what I'm getting myself in for and what warranty (if any) is on offer.
