What unit did you get? I think I have convinced the other half to get me a mobile unit as a b'day pressie :)

I thought the same - I wonder if this is the exception to the rule, or if it's a sign that maybe I've been mistaken all along? :)

I had the impression that Mobile One's scanner antennas were fairly good...

Well that's effectively all I've got is the SCABASE which is I believe the name of my big white one on my roof which picks up a load, from ATC to SJA, RPH security, FRS and everything else in between. My SCATX allows me to pick up the Roley 2M repeater when I'm at SES though it's a bit scratchy and that's down low not even on my roof. As well as all the other things. Oh well we'll see when the correct remote head arrives hopefully before the weekend so I can mount it this weekend and have 5 antenna's on my car...gonna look like a storm chaser in the US just now. Just need some flashing lights other than my indicators! :P

I had the opportunity to swap three antennae while somebody was in a marathon transmission on 2m. Obviously I was parked :-) I swapped the above with a S/S 1/4 whip I bought at hamfest for $7 and a 5/8 I made. The 5/8 performed best. The whip pulled in a better signal than the Mobile-One. I rotated them around a few times just to make sure it wasn't varying conditions.
I also tried out what repeaters I could hit from home to work and the Mobile One was worse than the whip on both bands. Also the rubber cap has already split and the insulation under that is quite loose. I'll probably just strip it and wind my own
