Re: New Beacon?
Not yet no. There's still more testing to be done before it gets released into the wild and left alone unsupervised.robbage wrote:I dialled RIB up at lunchtime and there was only a carrier and ident (S4 in Swanbourne). Must have gone voice soon after. Also S4 in Ballajura. Also has the whistle and a bit of static. Is it at Mazenod yet?
Once it's been tested for a few days with some kind of voice file (i.e. the WIA news ad-nauseum), it'll go up into the hills for more testing to see how far it gets out. Once we're happy that all is well, it'll be bedded down into its final location and that, with luck, will be that!

Except for going up to add/delete/update the audio files. Oh... and restart the PC every time it crashesit'll be bedded down into its final location and that, with luck, will be that!

Re: New Beacon?
Nah do all the adding/deleting/updating remotely...well I hope that's the plan! As for the PC schedule a reboot to occur weekly at a certain time like 3am when no one is using the beacon.auntys_eyes wrote:Except for going up to add/delete/update the audio files. Content can be uploaded remotely (FileZilla FTP server for anyone interested in the nuts and bolts), and I have a means of remote administration of the PC as well.
Hopefully with a bit of careful management, it'll run without too many problems.

Re: New Beacon?
Seems to be working quite well. The audio broadcast keeps changing every now and then - varies from a recorded message to news of the world?
Gets some AC hum every now and then though?

Re: New Beacon?
Cool, thanks for the feedback. The beacon's not in its ideal location yet, there's still tinkering going on, which explains the differing audio, and the occasional AC hum...VK6??? wrote:Seems to be working quite well. Re: New Beacon?
Yep, it's now up in the hills, ready to go live tomorrow morning at 10:00am.
For now it's doing it's morse ident every 10 minutes so we're legal, and a voice ident (thanks Gavin!) every 4 minutes.
But 10:00 tomorrow morning is when it should all start happening
There's three WARSUG'er voices on there, let's see if we can figure out who and for what
