Foundation Licence

Hi Folks.
have been following this thread with regards to the foundation License.

My Question is --
Can anyone advise me which form when filling out the forms at completion of the test , is the form that uses your address on the ACMA website when people look up your callsign ?

The reason i ask is that i believe there are a couple forms requiring your address and i wish to use a PO.BOX ad ( rather than my home ad ) for the one that appears on the ACMA site under my callsign.

Any advice appreciated.

Hi Razzle,

Out of the six million forms you have to fill out when you've passed all your assessments, some of them are WIA forms and some of them are ACMA forms. So it'd be one of the two ACMA forms - a green one and a yellow one - that would be where you'd do the PO Box and home address information.

I have copies of the green and yellow forms at home, but none with me at work. I'll drag them out and have a look tonight

OK here we go, the yellow ACMA form is the "Application for initial issue or replacement issue of certificate of proficiency" - so it's not that one.

The green form is the "Application for apparatus licence(s)".

In the instructions and information section of that form it states:

Disclosure of personal information
Information provided by the applicant or authorised representative in a field of this form marked with an asterisk is required by section 147 of the Radiocommunications Act 1992 to be disclosed to the public by ACMA in the Register of Radiocommunications Licences. ACMA will disclose the contents of the Register by making it available for inspection at any ACMA office, on its website and through the sale of a data CD.

In the Applicant's details section, "Postal address" has an asterisk, but "Residential or business address" doesn't. It also says:

In the event that no postal address is provided, the residential or business address will be taken as the postal address and the above mentioned disclosure provisions will apply.

So it looks like providing you fill in the postal address field, they'll use that in the published register. Leave it blank and they use your home address.

Well today i bought a radio in preparation for hopefully getting my license.
Its' all very exciting , just like Xmas . Can't wait to key up ( unless stage fright gets me )

There's a few of us down south too, so it would be great to organise an IRLP hookup (I'll put that at the top of my list of things to figure out next too!).

Once you've completed your Foundation course, it'd be great if you come back and let us know how it all went, where you did your course, what you thought of it, all that stuff. Oh as well as what callsign you get too!

As for IRLP - in most cases, as best I understand it, you key up your local repeater, announce your callsign and that you're using IRLP, then enter the 4 digit node number via DTMF. If it works, you should hear a confirmation.

Don't forget when using a linking system like IRLP or Echolink that you should leave a second or two between when you key up the microphone to when you start talking, to make sure the first bit of what you say isn't chopped off.

This document gives a bit of info about VK6RVP here in Perth that has both IRLP and Echolink on it, and how it works. Other repeaters would differ slightly, but the basic principles would be more or less the same.

I've changed my prefered call sign 100 times already LOL. I want one that is easy to say since i'll be saying it so often . Not many left like that in VK2 but have a couple in mind.

I have read up about IRLP before and understand the basics i think. The part that i'm not sure about is -- if i use my local repeater ( it has a node no ) and i link to another repeater, will i be stopping people on my local repeater from talking locally with each other whilst i'm linked ?. Dont want to upset anyone.
