Hi Folks.
Been seeing what my Yaesu FT857 and wire antenna can do.
The bureau of meteorology transmit these faxes over HF radio to ships at sea using two stations, one at each end of the continent. More info here: http://www.bom.gov.au/marine/marine_weather_radio.shtml
This was received from VMW on 5755kHz USB. The slant of the picture is due to timing problems with my PC. HF Fax software usually will have a function to correct it. It took almost 20 minutes to receive.

Re: HF Weather Fax
Setting up the sound card straightens up the fax nicely. I use multipsk for all the digital modes successfully and setting up the sound card was dead easy. It has a nice graph that makes selecting the frequency easy as well
Re: HF Weather Fax
That is awesome, thanks for sharing Gav. I knew the service existed but I'd never seen a real picture of what it would look like.
Re: HF Weather Fax
There's a long history with the WX fax and it's very interesting.
Google "VIP Perth Radio" (now closed) and you should be able to get some really interesting information and links on the coastal marine stations. The current WX fax is transmitted from WMV Wiluna WA and VMC Charleville Qld.
All good stuff.
And it's great for setting the sound card timmings as mentioned.
