Antenna Question

Hey can any of you guys tell me this..........

a guy that lives close to me has this weird contraption, i dont know what its for. i think its for picking up some kind of signal, it looks like this. ill try and describe it.

There are two poles, one at the back of his house, one to the front, the poles are set up diagonally from one another. there is then some kind of wires running between the two, it kind of looks like a metal cable ladder running on its side from pole to pole. i figured that maybe after talking about the cable thing between two poles or trees this might be used for picking up shortwave...........

And you would be correct :smt080

(It could also be an antenna used for transmitting on HF frequencies as well)
