Hey guys,

Just a quick one....I'm soon to be travelling between Perth and Pingelly on a regular basis due to expecting our 2nd bub and the Mrs wanting (read: needing) to be around her family. So with this in mind, I don't really wanna get stuck on the Brookton Highway more than I need to in the event of an emergency, plus.....I would like to set up a scanner inside my XR6 since country are still on the old analogue out that way. So....can anyone point me in the right direction as to what would be a good CB, good scanner, AND what is a preferable antenna to run for the best range, obviously within a small budget...

Cheers,

- Kilmo

I used to have a Uniden UHO15sx in my work car.I think the cement dust killed it.Other wise it was a great little unit.60ch scanner,40ch UHF.And you can mount it in the boot with the head on the dash.I had the 6ft bandscanner i think its called.

If you're using the CB side of things you'll want a CB antenna which is 477MHz I think off the top of my head, can pick up mounts etc from Dick Smith usually. Or if you want to buy my ground independant antenna then send me a message (same as the cops with the little silver mount, and antenna, though mine also has a spring, and it also has a bigger antenna)

Quick question to add to topic....

If i was to go Telstra Next G with my iPhone 4, and buy a suitable car cradle....could I infact use the same CB antenna as my Uniden is connected to with the cradle for the purposes of boosting the phones signal ???

Not really, NextG is 850Mhz, CB is 477Mhz, you would need a separate antenna.

probably the fact your using a scanning antenna for transmitting on CB that killed it.

The bandspanner/scanner whatever they called it is actually rated to transmit on 477Mhz @ 4.5dB although I don't think it would be very good at it.

Hey guys one more quick question.....

I've installed my car kit and Uniden CB/scanner in my XR6.....but I'm curious....can I use dual antennas running the same Freq but different dB ????

Say like a 5.1dB on glass antenna and a 12.1dB boot mount antenna ????

Or will this create problems.....

The gain would be the least of your problems. Connecting two antennae to one radio will be the hard part...
