Yes I'm also reasonably sure that using two antenna's at the same time on a transmitting radio wouldn't go down too well at all. It would be best to just carry the second antenna and swap them on the go where you see fit.

I did experiment with a single antenna and two scanners though. Worked ok but I noticed some interference at times.

Even if you could match them up to obtain 50 ohms impedance, you would then probably have the issue of them interacting and causing a directional radiation pattern.

kilmo wrote:Hey guys one more quick question.....

I've installed my car kit and Uniden CB/scanner in my XR6.....but I'm curious....can I use dual antennas running the same Freq but different dB ????

Say like a 5.1dB on glass antenna and a 12.1dB boot mount antenna ????

Or will this create problems.....

I would avoid those on glass antennas as they are quite deaf.

they would both need to be tuned to the freq. you are using, otherwise the untuned antenna would destroy your radio. people co-phase directional antennas all the time.
though, the more connections you have, the more loss ect. and all the effort you would need to go through versus the benefits you would see wouldnt make it worth doing, not in a mobile situation.

think about
-what freq. the antenna is going to be used at most.
-is the antenna going to be used for transmitting.
-what terrain are you going to be around whilst your using it. (open highways/metro area/hilly area ect)
-where are you going to mount the antenna and what vehicle do you drive.
-how often are you going to be using the antenna
and remember, bigger isnt always better, but hight is might.
