Traffic Feed for GPS units

Post by numloxx »

Hi all,

Found this unit on the PLE Website http://ple.com.au/?p=snapshot&inventory_id=413 and made me think about how you can receive this traffic data?

Any ideas?

Cheers,

I think, and don't quote me on this, there is a service provided by someone that 'transmits' some kind of data on a specific frequency and compatible GPS's pick it up and decipher it.

This PLE attachment would just possibly act as an antenna, kind of like putting a headset into a phone that supports FM radio to pickup the reception? And possibly 'enable' the service as well.

I think the system works by using a data sub-carrier on some FM radio stations.

I was under the impression that this service was not available in Perth yet.

It's been in Syd/Melb for a few years I think.

I've seen a Perth model in action although can't remember which one, I'll post an update when I do. No idea how the info was sourced but it showed some incidents to avoid. Was a retail model.

It is according to their website.

I was surprised to see the coverage on the map. Not heard about it till this thread popped up.

Thanks all.

I think my ebay 7" gps with reverse camera supports TMC, but not sure how it plugs it... whether its via the mini USB port or not.
The software supports it anyway. Might give it a go in the next few weeks :)

Probably not as the GTM-25 is for selected Garmin GPS if I read things correctly.
