Post by cmoore »

This has probebly been around for ages but Ive just noticed it down my way (Rockingham) on 151.775, signal is weak but still audiable. Is this Normal

Also have a really strong signal on 151.675, which at this time seems to be Veitnemess langusge. Also a weak signal on 151.950.

Any idea who these transmisions are aimed for

There are a lot of community radio stations in the mid VHF band, around 150mhz. Most of them are <1000w transmitters and are usually ethnic radio stations.

There are quite a few of them around the Tuart Hill / Yokine area but there are others as well.

As for radio lollypop, they possibly also broadcast on one of these frequencies so that people nearby the hospital can listen in.

The audience of these stations is not large, but it's well known that you need a scanner to listen to them. As far as I know there are no off the shelf radios that scan a certain band and nothing else, a normal scanner is required.

Also, do an ACMA search with 70.000 to 70.240 and 151.39375 - 152.49375 MHz

Hellenic are (or used to be) on 151.950 MHz

Bonez you've confirmed my suspicions, I had always wondered if those nationalities / countries had their own type of receiver capable of receiving those frequencies, much like our AM / FM radio setup. What has shocked me most is that that they need a scanner to listen to them, fancy trying to listen to our FM stations on a scanner on a full time basis? (Though to be technical, an AM / FM receiver is a scanner in a sense...)

Terrible frequency range for a radio station.

I can get a couple from my place...

From what I understand they are primarily for something like hotels/motels for visitors from other nations.

The Radio Lollipop transmission you are getting is the broadcast from our studio in PMH to our satalite stations in Joondalup, Fremantle,Murdoch and Armadale.
We will be turning off our transmitter at the end of the year when we transmit via the internet
