IC-R1500 HELP !!!

Post by DreamBandit »

Hi All, What a find, (This Site) ...
I recently received an Icom IC-R1500 as an insurance claim replacement on a Bearcat XLT 680 (??) ...

I'm SURE it will make me a Cappuchino IF I can find the right sequence of buttons etc; ..
I know how to turn it ON, thats where it all stops .. WHAT do I do NEXT ?? ..

I am in Townsville and I'm SURE that there would be some VERY Interesting frequencies up here ..

I did go see the guys at T.A.R.C. (Townsville Amateur Radio Club) and they were more than helpful in showing me what it can do and gave me some idea on its potential and how to use it .. BUT, I still am having problems using it, ANY advice/suggestions.."NOT those ones:.. on where or what to do would be appreciated..

Do scanners come with user/owners manuals?

Sure did/do, but have YOU seen this one, ...... for someone that has only used a Bearcat with LIMITED freq range, THEN to go to the Icom unit that is more like operating a ham radio, with an unbroken range from 0.010000 - 3299.999999 across SSB-CW-AM-WFM-FM-AUTO FM ... with a computer display that looks like it is out of an F1-11 .. Scares the crap out of me, so tell me/explain, if or AFTER you have read the manual, Oh Knowledgeable One ..
If you dont know and dont ask for help from what appears to be a site(WARC) of experianced people, Where does one get assistance ??

Not many of us would have played with one of those beasts. Sounds like a nice scanner.

AGREED, it really is a COOL new toy ...

THANKS for the new name for "IT" The BEAST :D

I REALLY dont know why my old unit (15 yr old Bearcat .. XLT670) was replaced with an ICOM IC-R1500 though.
Thats Insurance companies for you its like giving me a Ferrari for a Commodore ..

BUT HEY !!! I'm NOT complaining \:D/

I guess I will persevere for a while and see where it takes me ...

Again, if anyone can help with interpreting the flight manual for an IC-R1500 .. PLEASE take pity on me ..

That unit looks great. I'm happy to swap it for one of mine if you like!
I have a couple of Icom receivers and at first you may actually find it easier and faster to program it with your PC rather than use the remote head.

That is what I am "attempting" to do :? .. Am I glad I found the RESET facility :D :D ...

I think I got some freq in the memory channel, now I have to work THAT out, then try to clone it to use that info on the remote ... ..

Give it a week or two, I MAY even take you up on the swap offer,.. !!SERIOUSLY!!
