Here is an idea if you have little or poor quality reseption:
I got one of the spare TV ariel outlets and got one of those airiel wires and pluged it into that.

Then i plugged the other end into my scanner

SIMPLE AS THAT

But my scanner (UBC92XLT), has a different ariel socket so i just chopped the wire and added the middle one (the stiff copper) into my ariel socket. it workes GREAT

Warning: Please make sure that when you cut the wire that it is unplugged. (It may save you a trip to the hospital)

PS: Does anyone know how to spell ariel???

aerial

the only problem with that, is your scanner aerial's are 50 Ohm, while your TV aerial and Cable are generally 75 Ohm. So it's not the optimal for your scanner.

you might wanna get RG58/cu coax and put a BNC conector (scanner plug) on one end and a AV rf plug (TV conector) on the other , i prefer solder type for my plugs/sockets , , though the coax in the wall is still 75ohm ,atleast the rg 58 is 50 ohm..
that way the stiff center conductor dosent snap off/fall off in the female BNC plug, causing all sorts of headaces :D

i'll try that,
it may be easier if i just buy a separate dedicated antenna

yeah , but if you buy a dedicated antenna get one that tuned for the frequncies youll be useing most , or you might be able to co-phase two antennas togeather , eg 27mhs and 477mhz running to you scanner in a "V' configoration , it should be fine as you only RECEIVEING from it
dont plug it in to a TX able radio, i havent tryed it as yet but ive heard of it beeing done , please not that if you do this is on you own free will an i take no resposability
