Loud Booms

Post by Always RX »

Anyone got any idea what the huge booming noises were that i heard at around 7:40pm in the Kwinana / Rockingham area.???.. kinda sounded like sonic booms from military aircraft...but it kinda sounded like fireworks/bombs as well. Ive never heard anything like it here since i moved down this way.

illusion... welcome and onya mate! , that pretty much explains what i heard i reckon. I thought it sounded like jet noise but something about it just didnt say aircraft...and you are dead right , even from a few k`s away the sound was kinda felt as well as heard.

Always RX, very late reply I know, only new here.
While I'm sure that answered your question, there's also frequent noises like that making it's way from the Kwinana industrial strip (BP, CSBP, Wesfarmers etc) and the grain silo. Hear it all the time. The noise travels unimpeded across the ocean.

I went to school with and knew those boys, suffice to say I was not at all surprised when I heard the news.

Gday Mr B , thanks for that and I know exactly what you mean about the noises from the industrial strip as I also hear those at home from time to time....but that night it was definetly jet roar, a sound i am pretty familiar with working in aviation but i just couldnt figure out why i was hearing it down this way and i totally forgot i live near a drag strip  . Good to have another local in the group.....Welcome!
