WA Radio Scanner Users' Group

Hi ,
My name is Kel, I live in the Mandurah area and have finally got around to buying my first scanner. I got an secondhand AOR AR1000 on ebay for $100 bucks (your thoughts??).

My question is regarding Marine AM freqs. I don't seem to be able to recive them. I can pick up Airband, Police, concil etc, but no Marine AM??
I have programed the freqs in correctly, Do I need a special type of aerial to get/improve these freqs??

I have been looking at the aerial at Dick Smith,
Mobile One Base/Portable Scanner Antenna $79 think its got about 3m of coax to bnc,any Ideas about this one??
Do you know of some net resourses about making aerials??
