REscue helicopter Dunsborough

I fish off the rocks around the Dunsborough area and a few times the rescue chopper did a flyby to check that we are ok.
Does anyone know if they monitor CB channels?
If they do next time I'll bring along a UHF in case of emergencies.

They could possibly listen to UHF CH 5 but im unsure

It's handy to take a UHF CB with you anyway, because the channel 6 repeater at Dunsborough is monitored by Australian Citizens Radio Monitors WA (ACRM), and whilst channel 6 might seem to be pretty quiet, it's monitored quite a bit by a station down there who calls themselves ACRM base. I forget the lady's name but her and her husband have been doing it for years.

No, but if you ever get in trouble then a CB is going to be more help than nothing. Someone can contact the appropriate emergency services on your behalf.

Why not carry a portable VHF marine radio in a waterproof plastic enclosure ? Put the radio on scan and listen to all the local waterways activity around you and also frequent weather safety broadcasts.
If you get in to serious trouble, call up on the distress frequency and you will get help much quicker than a UHF CB radio with all the idiots on it. See here for licencing

Perfect example right now on VHF marine(Both Channel 16 Distress and Channel 6 Port Operations). A Lifesaver Rescue helicopter is talking with Cockburn Sea Rescue and Rockingham VMR about a lost vessel. There is another Helicopter waiting for clearance to fly in the area and Cockburn are indicating that they can call them on "Digital"
