I use a scanner that uses dynamic systems and groups

But on the older style I'd say its different for most people but like for like services as close together as possible, everything entered into an Excel spreadsheet for easy updating and printing to know what is what.

Same here :) I have the Uniden ubcd396xt which works off systems instead of banks (as commonly refered to with uniden scanners). Within each system is a group where a number of frequencies can be entered.

I have mine set up as:

Public Safety - FESA, SES, EMS, FRS, Surf Life Saving, VFAS
Transperth - Public Transport, Rail, Swan Taxis
Maritime - VHF Marine, 27MHz Marine, Water Police
Aviation - Perth Airport, Jandakot Airport, Melbourne Center
Security - Councils, Shopping Centre, Pattersons Oval, Services
General Scanning - Rottnest Island, Swimming Pools, Hungry Jacks, Perth Zoo
Perth Trunking - Motorola Smartnet
