Hey guys, whats the latest on the coppers going digital and vehicle set ups. I've got a standard 1.5 meter whip and noticed only a couple of police channels come through quiet or scratchy. Whats usually the best or best recommended set ups for your vehicle?

Cheers.

Hi Brett.

The police should be completely on digital some time in the next year or two.

When you say a standard 1.5 metre whip, is it an antenna for 27Mhz CB by any chance? Antennas have to be designed for the frequency in use and a 27Mhz CB antenna won't do very well at all on 468Mhz. I'd get a good scanner antenna from somewhere like mobileone - http://www.mobileone.com.au.

Cheers,
Gavin.

Hey gavin, thanks for that. The whip is for a UHF and not 27 Mhz. I just rang the boys at Audioworkz to confirm that because I wasn't sure from when I bought it from them.

Looking at Mobile 1 though. I want to set up a power source and base unit for home as well as the car.

More dollars to spend as well!

Ok. Just had to make sure :-)

How is the antenna mounted? If it's just a whip (i.e. screws into a 5/16" base) then it needs to be bolted to a metal ground plane.. basically a flat sheet of metal to work, as these antennas are designed for cars.

This one is mouned on the Bullbar of my Landcruiser but I'll be looking for the best set up for a base unit antenna pretty soon.
